“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Church Leadership Academy within the CMA denomination exists to assist local churches to develop people by providing leadership training resources that focus on making a Great Commission disciple. The Academy’s goal is to give the opportunity for anyone to follow the call of God by being better trained for ministry no matter where he or she lives or what their schedule.
Our church offers a training course called “The Life of Christ, a Compendium of Pastoral Theology.” The compendium is an eighteen month study on Christ’s life using the books of Matthew and Acts. In addition to Christ’s life, the course teaches Bible study methods, basic Christian doctrines, practical ministry skills, and principles of Christian living.
The training course includes three facets: lesson materials, weekly class discussion, and ministry projects. The lesson material is completed during the week by the student, and is in a question/answer format and is an effective format for learning. The weekly discussions help the student to verbalize what he has learned that week, and give them an opportunity to ask questions and discuss life applications of the material studied.
Ministry projects are what the student does with the things he has learned in class and through the lessons. During this course the student is encouraged to use his gifts, talents, and knowledge God gives him to minister to the body of believers and the community around him through evangelism and service. Students are encouraged and challenged to serve God in whatever ministry He has given them through the power of the Holy Spirit.
